MAPIC Award for Forum Coimbra
At last week’s MAPIC, the international market for retail real estate in Cannes, Shopping Centre Forum Coimbra, in Coimbra, Portugal, was awarded with the prestigious MAPIC Award in the category Shopping Centres on Thursday 15th November. This category was introduced for the first time this year and Forum Coimbra was chosen from 21 finalists. The jury praised its architectural appearance, interior design and product offerings.
Forum Coimbra is a suburban regional shopping centre with 48,000 m2 retail and leisure, anchored by a Carrefour hypermarket. It sits on a hill on the left bank of Mondego river. It is a 3-level enclosed scheme with underground and surface car parking. The project is perfectly integrated in the environment. It comprises a wide retail offer and leisure facilities: 146 units, a 6 screen cinema. Earlier this year, in April Forum Coimbra already received the European ICSC Award. Forum Coimbra is praised for being ‘best’ in a number of ways and successful in its most important aspects: the site, planning, architecture, merchandising, sales results, customer approval and financial returns. Forum Coimbra was developed by Multi Development Portugal. Architects are T+T Design (master plan) and Broadway Malyan.
MAPIC commendation for Entre Deux
At the MAPIC awards ceremony it was again a Multi project that came out second best. The inner city regeneration project Entre Deux in Maastricht, the Netherlands received a MAPIC commendation.
The jury recognised the unique qualities of this charming shopping project, entirely entwined with the historical city centre and bringing together Maastricht’s two most important city squares. A new inner city shopping development (12,000 mē) has transformed what was once an eyesore into an asset, sensitively integrated into the delicate centre of this old and beautiful city. Entre Deux is an uncompromising choice for quality where the old and the new come together. In includes six historical buildings and a former Dominican church. It offers retail on three levels, dwellings and parking. Entre Deux was developed by Multi Vastgoed jointly with developer 3W. Owner is Fortis Vastgoed Beleggingen. Architects are T&T Design, Arn Meijs Architecten and Exner Architects.
Multi Development European Retail Developer of the year
Now in its fourth year, the EG Retail and Future Project Awards 2007 were presented during MAPIC on Wednesday November 14th and celebrated excellence in architecture, development, investment and agency across the retail property market. Multi Development was awarded European Retail Developer of the year for the extraordinary scale and growth of Multi Development’s pan-European operations and the sustainable qualities of its projects.
ICSC Europe announced finalists for 2008 European Shopping Centre Awards
Three Multi projects have been selected as finalists for the 2008 European Shopping Centre Awards:
In the category New Development Small: Entre Deux, Maastricht, the Netherlands (jointly with 3W).
In the category New Development Medium: Musiskwartier, Arnhem, the Netherlands.
Musiskwartier is an inner city regeneration project that repaired the fabric of the town where there were unattractive blocks and reinstated a rich pattern of historic and new buildings and squares. It offers 35,000 mē of retail.
In the category New Development Large: Forum Bornova, Izmir, Turkey.
Forum Bornova Shopping and Lifestyle centre was developed by Multi Turkmall. It is an open air shopping centre offering 62,000 m2 of retail and leisure. With its squares, ponds and diverse architecture it creates the atmosphere of a Mediterranean village and offers a new shopping experience to the region.
The 2008 awards will be presented at the 33rd ICSC Europe Conference in April 2008 in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
