MULTI TURKMALL CELEBRATES GROUNDBREAKING IN DIYARBAKIR

Forum Diyarbakir (55,000 m²) the biggest shopping and lifestyle centre in the region

Multi Turkmall, leader in the Turkish commercial real estate market, yesterday celebrated a groundbreaking ceremony in Diyarbakir, Turkey, which marked the start of construction of Shopping and Lifestyle Centre Forum Diyarbakir (55,000 m²) in the South East of Turkey. It shall be the largest and the most modern shopping centre development in the region. The opening is scheduled for September 2009. Throughout Turkey Multi Turkmall has a pipeline of 25 retail projects in progress and under construction. Forum Diyarbakir is Multi Turkmall’s first development in South East Turkey. The scheme is being developed for an investment subsidiary of Multi Corporation bv. The Groundbreaking Ceremony of Forum Diyarbakir was held in the presence of Mehmet Mehdi Eker, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs; Hüseyin Avni Mutlu, Governor of Diyarbakir; Osman Baydemir, Mayor of Diyarbakir; Firat Anli, Mayor of Yenisehir; Nico Veldhuis, Managing Director of Multi Development – Vice Chairman of Multi Turkmall and Levent Eyüboglu, Managing Director of Multi Turkmall.

The project
Forum Diyarbakir will be the largest and the most modern shopping centre of the region. Forum Diyarbakir has 55,000 m² GLA anchored by a hypermarket, a DIY shop, and an eight-screen cinema complex and offers 150 shops, restaurants and cafes as well as a parking space for 2,000 cars. The centre will become a point of attraction for the whole region with its wide range of shops, social and cultural activities and entertainment facilities.

Concept
The Masterplan is designed by T+T Design, Gouda, the Netherlands. Forum Diyarbakir is designed as the a three-storey enclosed shopping centre. The design is, inspired by the local architectural elements of the region such as inner courtyards and facades with basalt stone that are reminiscent to the traditional Diyarbakir city walls. A tower will make it a new landmark in the city. The centre integrates shopping, entertainment and community functions.

The city: Diyarbakir
Forum Diyarbakir is located in the city of Diyarbakir in South East Turkey. Starting from ancient times Diyarbakir has been a bridge between Anatolia and Mesopotamia, and a connection road between Europe and Asia. The city became the base of many civilizations as well as the capital of culture, economy and commerce. The city is an attraction centre of the region with its historical and cultural heritages, and its development potential due to the growing population. There are 700,000 inhabitants in the centre and 1,5 million in the province.
The city is also a famous tourist destination with its city walls, copper works, Tigris River and bridges. The walls surrounding the old city are very well known since they are the second longest (5,5 km) and best-preserved walls in the world after the Great Wall of China. With its modern city centre, young population, Dicle University Campus, hospitals research centre, government projects and busy airport, the city represents a great investment potential.
