MULTI VASTGOED IS REDEVELOPING THE BILGAARD SHOPPING CENTRE IN LEEUWARDEN
 

28 March 2007 - Multi Vastgoed will be redeveloping the Bilgaard shopping centre in Leeuwarden, together with Corporatie Holding Friesland, corporation Nieuw Wonen Friesland, and WPM Planontwikkeling. Half the centre was destroyed by fire on 24 August 2006. The shopping centre is going to be expanded from 7,800mē to 9,500mē and housing will be developed. The plans for the redevelopment will be produced in close consultation with the shop owners, who are also the owners of the centre.

Master plan
The centre will be more accessible, with new entrances and a central square of 1,000mē. The roof of the shopping centre will accommodate some 90 multi-storey houses of various types and in various price categories, with residents’ parking on the parking deck. There will also be room for green areas. The exterior of the centre will get a face-lift and the council is going to tidy up the public spaces in the area. The principles for the redevelopment are defined in the master plan from architects Arons and Gelauff in Amsterdam.

Housing
The accommodation will be developed by two housing corporations. On 13 March, in the presence of local councillor Ms. Waanders, Multi Vastgoed signed a declaration of intent with housing corporations Corporatie Holding Friesland and Nieuw Wonen Friesland.

The basic structure of the north face of the shopping centre will be ready by 1 January 2008. Development of the remaining shops and houses will be completed by 2010.
