MULTI VASTGOED, JOHAN MATSER AND SNS PROPERTY FINANCE ARE SELLING THE FORMER BANK BUILDING ON DE BOOMPJES IN ROTTERDAM AND REDEVELOPING IT AS A HOTEL IN PARTNERSHIP WITH VAN DER VALK OF ROTTERDAM

Multi Vastgoed, Johan Matser and SNS Property Finance have reached agreement with Brouwershoff about the sale of the former building of the Dutch Central Bank on De Boompjes in Rotterdam.

The listed building on De Boompjes will be redeveloped as a five-star hotel with 140 rooms, conference and meeting facilities, a gym, restaurant, brasserie and wine bar. DTZ Zadelhoff of Rotterdam acted as advisors for Multi Vastgoed, Johan Matser and SNS Property Finance.

Van der Valk, owner of establishments including the Plaswijck restaurant in Hillegersberg Rotterdam and the recently opened hotel on the A15 motorway in Ridderkerk, will give the listed former bank building an international character based on the example of hotels in New York and other cities.

In the words of Freek van der Valk, “The building on De Boompjes offers us a unique opportunity to shift our position in Rotterdam towards the centre, thereby strengthening it. The hotel will be developed along the same sustainable lines as our new Hotel Ridderkerk and we will do all we can to make this another fresh and exciting hotel.”

A new Van der Valk hotel at this fine location and in a unique building will be a real addition for Rotterdam. The development will mark the next phase in the ongoing development of De Boompjes. Previously, the parties built a new office building here for Ernst & Young, which was taken into use in 2005, as well as a semi-public car park with approximately 650 spaces on Terwenakker for Rotterdam municipality. The refurbishment and expansion of the surrounding area has created a pleasant public space around the existing building and office block.

Part of the overall development is a new office block with two storeys reserved for residential use called Hoog aan de Maas. At the end of August, Multi, Johan Matser and SNS will commence sales of office units, some of which will overlook the former bank building. The marketing of these office units is in the hands of De Mik corporate accommodation and DTZ Zadelhoff.

Hoog aan de Maas is a design by the Rotterdam architectural practice 01-10. On the overall plan they worked closely with New York architects Philip Johnson/Alan Ritchie. The design integrates the former Dutch Central Bank building into the overall development in an original way. Hoog aan de Maas rises above it and stretches to the River Maas. The extreme form and advanced construction provide an unusual contrast with the traditional zinc facades. It is precisely this combination that gives the building its distinctive look and makes it a real addition to the Rotterdam skyline; the new business centre.
